Furniture shopping can be a lot of fun or it can be a nightmare, depending on your personality and preferences. Furniture is something we all need and can’t do without. For many, their home furnishings are an extension of their personality. They have to have antiques, or Danish, or Italian modern and nothing else will do. For others, furniture is purely functional: a chair is a chair. Others are not too concerned with style as they are with color. They want bright colors or muted colors. They want it splashy or they want it conservative. Some people are meticulous and have to have every item coordinated in terms of color, texture and style. Others just buy what they like whether they go together or not.
Whatever category you fall into, you still have to shop for the furniture. Usually people have some idea of what they want or the style they want and they just have to shop around to find the store with the best price. Other times people are furnishing a home and don’t know what they want, so they shop around to find ideas. They can look on the internet or they can use an interior designer from the store or from another source to help them. If they are ordering their furniture they have to select the fabric and colors. You can actually design your own nursery furniture and save quite a bit.
What is it that you are looking for? For one thing, the crib should be considered. When selecting a crib, look at quality. It should be strong and able to hold a child at least up to 40 pounds, when you can move them to a larger bed. You should also want to find a crib that has rails that are spaced closely together so that they can not squeeze their heads through the slots. The rails should not slide down easily but should be easy enough for you to slide back up or down with a child in your hand. Look for safety seals on these products as a must for quality. For a crib, if possible, purchase new and keep safety as your first and main goal. The rest of the pieces are more flexible, though. Read the rest of this entry »

Wicker furniture is tough and durable, but extremely light, which makes it popular for use in both indoors and outdoors living areas…and it has been this way since the beginning of recorded time. Archaeologists have found artifacts made from wicker in Egypt, and dated them to about 1400 B.C.
There is no plant called “wicker”…the term refers to the method in which the chosen material - rattan, bamboo, willow, or other sturdy but pliable plant fibers - are woven together -usually through a rattan framework - to form anything from baskets to tables to chairs.
